The Black Knight Titan is a powerful boss that drops several different Chaotic weapons and shields. In RuneScape, there's not always a 1:1 correspondence between the level of a mob and its actual difficulty, and the Black Knight Titan is a great example of that principle. Despite having a combat level of 1224 - higher even than pre-EoC Nex - the Black Knight Titan is relatively weak. The Titan's melee attacks will hit about 50% through prayer, so against players using Prayer Protection against Melee, its maximum hit is just 35. It also has low defense, making it a very quick boss to kill. The Titan makes up for this, though, by having attacks that are extraordinarily accurate and can poison. Even with full Torva Armor and an Elysian Spirit sheild, which provide 500+ slash and ranged damage, the Titan's attacks will hit very frequently.

Gear and inventory setup

The Black Knight Titan uses both melee and range attacks, but never magic, so the obvious armour to wear is melee armour. Luckily, melee is also the most effective attack style against the Titan. Players with full Torva Armour can take advantage of increased max hitpoints, which dramatically reduces the chance of getting killed. For many bosses, the goal is to maximize damage-per-second (dps), even at the expense of defense. Here, though, defense is much more important. As the next section explains, accessing this boss effectively costs 110m per trip. Therefore, the goal should be to maximize the number of kills per trip, rather than maximizing the speed of those kills. In case of crashers, players can bring alternate gear to increase their offensive capabilities.

Here is the best gear to use in each gear slot:

Head: Torva Full Helm > Completionist Hood > Statius's Full Helm > Max Hood > Helm of Neitiznot

Torso: Torva Platebody > Vesta's Chainbody > Statius's Platebody > Elite Platebody > Bandos Chestplate

Legs: Torva Platelegs > Vesta's Plateskirt > Statius's Platelegs > Elite Platelegs > Bandos Tassets

Gloves: Barrows Gloves

Boots: Primal Boots > Steadfast Boots > Dragon Boots

Amulet: Blood Necklace > Amulet of Fury > Amulet of Glory

Ring: Onyx Ring (i) > Berserker Ring (i) > Berserker Ring > Ring of Recoil

Cape: TokHaar-Kal (Kiln Cape) > Completionist Cape > Max Cape > Fire Cape > Ardougne Cloak 4

Offhand: Elysian Spirit Shield > Defensive Shield > Divine Spirit Shield > Dragon Defender

Weapon: Abyssal Vine Whip > Chaotic Rapier > Chaotic Longsword > Abyssal Whip

Spec Weapon: Dragon Claws > Dragon Dagger

Inventory setup

The most effective way to maximize the time a player can last killing the Black Knight Titan is to bring the best Beast-of-Burden familiar available, preferably a Pack Yak. There is no point in going to the Black Knight Titan only to get 5-10 kills per trip - the cost of Blue Keys and Ferocious Rings will make the trip unprofitable. Another important fact to consider is that the Black Knight Titan has about a 1/10 chance of dropping 100 un-noted Sharks. Getting one of these drops late in the trip can dramatically increase the number of kills that are possible in one trip. Starting with a nearly-empty Pack Yak, a player could easily use/pick up 30-40 of these sharks, thus gaining up to 800 hitpoints of staying power from one drop.

The Black Knight Titan will poison on essentially every kill. Poison damage starts at 17, so bringing antipoison is absolutely essential at this boss. The Titan will usually say a taunt when he attempts to poison, but not always, so players should keep an eye on the chatbar below so that they can drink antipoison before taking poison damage. The Titan will also periodically freeze players, but this can be safely ignored as there is no reason to move around while fighting.

The inventory setups listed below maximize average kills/trip by taking advantage of these shark drops. Players who get unlucky on sharks one trip may have to teleport out early; players who are very luck with shark drops might end the trip with lots of food remaining. On average, though, these are the most efficient setups for getting kills:

Maxed setup (full Torva, Elysian Spirit Shield, Abyssal Vine Whip)

With this setup, it is possible to last for up to 48 kills per trip. Each antipoison dose will last for one kill, and each overload dose will last for two kills. It takes slightly more than 5 minutes to get two kills, so players should time their overloads so that they run out just after the Titan dies, but the next overload dose isn't drunk until just before he spawns (the Titan takes 120 seconds to respawn). The Dragon or Flameburst Defender is included in this inventory setup as well, to use either against crashers or near the end of a trip if there is lots of extra food.

"Welfare" setup (full Black Elite, Elysian/Divine Spirit Shield, Chaotic Rapier)

With this setup, it is possible to last for up to 32 kills per trip. Each antipoison dose will last for one kill, and each overload dose will last for two kills. It will take around 6 minutes to get two kills, so players should time their overloads so that they run out just after the Titan dies, but the next overload dose isn't drunk until just before he spawns (the Titan takes 120 seconds to respawn). This timing will be a bit tighter than with maxed gear, but it is still very much possible to get two kills per overload dose. The Dragon or Flameburst Defender is included in this inventory setup as well, to use either against crashers or near the end of a trip if there is lots of extra food.

Getting there

Items Required:

  • Ferocious Ring (50m for a full, 5-charge ring)
  • Blue Key (50-100m each)

Step 1: Use the Ferocious Ring to teleport to "Black Knight Titan"

Step 2: Run north and cross the monkey bars (this will consume a blue key)

Step 3: Run west to the agility pipe in the wall. This leads to the Black Knight Titan. The monkey bars to the north lead to the Untouchable

Step 4: Enter the boss room and start killing

Note: It is HIGHLY recommended that you keep at least one extra blue key in your bank. The Titan will skull you as soon as you attack him, so if you die here without a key, you will lose all but one of your items.

Tips and tricks

Dealing with annoying familiars

It's a small boss room, so it's easy for your familiar to get in the way of you killing the Titan. However, if you run to the location shown and re-call it, it will appear inside the wall and get stuck, allowing you to access your Beast of Burden at your leisure without it interrupting your kills.

Dealing with annoying skeletons

One of the skeletons in this dungeon spawns in the boss room, so it will occasionally wander over and attack you. You can reduce the probability of it attacking by standing in the location shown between kills. This location also allows the Titan to attack you as soon as it spawns, so you get the most efficient kills. If you're low on food, you can also use Prayer soul split on the skeleton to recover a few hitpoints between kills.

Dealing with other players

The Black Knight Titan is one of the less-crowded bosses; however, crashing is always a possibility. Since it costs approximately 110m just to access the Titan, you don't really want to get there and have to leave immediately, so it's a good idea to check if someone is there first. Under game chat, a message will display whenever someone kills the Titan, so if no such message appears for at least 5 minutes, then it is almost certainly empty.

If someone is at Titan, it's considered good etiquette - not to mention good business - to private message them first and ask when they plan to leave. You might decide to try forcibly displacing them anyway, but at least you'll have the option of knowing when/if they will be gone.

Minimizing prayer usage

Part of maximizing your trip length is minimizing the number of prayer potions/super restores you have to bring. The easiest way to do this is to time the spawn so that you turn on prayer just as the Black Knight Titan respawns. You can pull this off by noting that the Black Knight Titan has a respawn timer of exactly 123 seconds, while items left on the floor will disappear after exactly 120 seconds. Therefore, as soon as his previous drop disappears (there should be bones left on the floor even if you picked up the drop), turn on your prayers again.

Between kills, you can also restore prayer at the Chaos Altar right outside the boss room.

Drops

The Black Knight Titan has extremely valuable drops that are also surprisingly common. Most of the money will come from Chaotic Rapier drops, but he also drops Chaotic Crossbows, Kiteshields, and Staves. The following table displays all of the unique drops, along with their estimated values and drop rates:
